11.01.14 - Engineers Outshoot; Blue Devils Outscore

TROY, NY – Rensselaer outshot Central Connecticut State University 47 to 27; the Blue Devils outscored the Engineers 4 – 2.

Senior Kevin Sheridan would put RPI on the board just two minutes into the 8pm start time, redirecting a shot from Junior Patrick Quarry. However, the Blue Devils would respond minutes later with a tally of their own. A few RPI penalties and an effective CCSU powerplay would lead to two more Central Connecticut goals.

With six minutes remaining in the first, Junior Sam Mannion would bring the Engineers within one, forcing home a rebound in front. The Blue Devils didn’t agree with the goal and earned themselves a trip to the box. Rensselaer had their share of chances on the powerplay, but the first period would end, 3 – 2.

More penalties against the Engineers at the start of the second allowed Central Connecticut to increase their lead to two, as RPI continued to outshoot the Blue Devils.

Despite a multitude of Rensselaer chances, the deficit remained at two goals as both netminders would turn away any remaining attempts to score. Junior Spencer Whitehead made many critical saves in the final two periods to keep the game tight, yet the Engineers could not seem to find the back of the net. Final Score: RPI 2, CCSU 4.

Rensselaer travels to the Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers in New York City next Friday to face off against New York University. The puck drops at 8:30pm.
